Over May and June, we were delighted to run a six-week breathwork and sound meditation series for women engaged in our services. Designed to support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and promote a sense of body awareness and community, the program has delivered exceptional outcomes—both in numbers and in heartfelt feedback.
The group was facilitated by Missy McKee, a qualified psychotherapist with extensive experience working with trauma, somatic principles, and vulnerable communities. Missy brings a unique depth of knowledge and compassion to her work, shaped in part by her time in Greece, where she established a charity supporting Syrian refugees and provided therapeutic interventions for both children and adults.
From the very first week, participants reported a sense of calm, connection, and care. The sessions offered a unique space to gently reconnect with the body, learn new strategies to manage anxiety and stress, and simply breathe.
The Numbers Speak for Themselves
Participants completed surveys before and after the program, and their responses showed clear improvements across all measures:
- Confidence using breathwork for stress or anxiety jumped from 5.6 to 8.9
- Ability to manage emotions improved from 4.9 to 8.3
- Connection to body and sensations increased from 5.6 to 9.3
- Sense of safety, relaxation, and community grew from 6.1 to 9.6
- Overall sense of well-being lifted from 5.3 to 8.7
Weekly stress levels dropped significantly as well. Before sessions, the average stress rating was 6.2 out of 10. After each session, that number fell to just 3.0—showing a consistent pattern of immediate relief.
In response to the results, Missy shared: “As we come to the end of the 6-week Breathwork series, I feel deeply grateful and proud of the women who showed up so wholeheartedly for themselves. Healing takes courage. It’s not always an easy path, but it’s one that sends a powerful ripple through our communities.”
What Women Told Us
Beyond the numbers, the stories and reflections were powerful:
“Absolutely so safe, so relaxed, so powerful.”
“Feel pain and tightness leave—when I go, I feel open and calm.”
“This breathing practice is amazingly able to calm myself when difficult times arise.”
“I feel accepted and connected.”
One participant shared that the breathwork sessions significantly accelerated their trauma therapy, helping them achieve progress in EMDR that had previously stalled. Many have begun incorporating breathwork into their daily routines.
Feedback at a Glance
- All participants rated their likelihood of recommending the program at 8–10 out of 10
- All said the program met or exceeded expectations, with similar ratings
A Space for Healing and Growth
These sessions created more than a moment of calm—they offered a pathway toward deeper healing. We saw an increase in emotional resilience, physical awareness, and a renewed sense of self and community.
Suzan, Therapeutic Team Leader at The Deli shared:
“Over the 6-week breathwork and sound meditation program, clients reconnected with their bodies—shaking, tears, or deep stillness became signs of deep processing. Through breath and sound, they found ways to regulate their emotions, calm their nervous systems, safely access stored trauma, and begin to release it. It was as if the body could finally speak—and be heard.”
We are so proud of the women who took part and so grateful to Missy McKee for holding the space with such care and wisdom. Based on the overwhelmingly positive results, we are actively exploring ways to continue and expand this offering.
