Spreading Joy: The Deli’s Annual Christmas Cave

  • Published: 3 months ago
In the spirit of giving and community spirit, the Deli Women and Children’s Annual Christmas Cave is a fixture for women and children facing challenges due to domestic and family violence.

By Jennifer Wu, Family Support Coordinator

For two weeks, this heartwarming event provides a haven of festive delights, offering gifts, food hampers and supermarket gift cards ensuring that every member of our community can enjoy a happy Christmas regardless of their financial situation.

The generosity of the Clovelly Community Bank, Ray White Maroubra and South Coogee, Lions Club Maroubra, Share the Dignity, and Project Kindness has been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.

Clovelly Community Bank and Ray  White Maroubra and South Coogee operate Christmas donation drives in the lead up to the holiday season, providing a central hub for the community to drop off gifts for those strugging at Christmas. In addition to these drives, Lions Club Maroubra provided over $1300 of new LEGO packs, and Share the Dignity and Project Kindness provided gifts and hampers for our mums.

All of their incredible efforts filled our Christmas Cave with an array of presents, bringing smiles and warmth to families who may be grappling with domestic violence, in particular financial or post-separation abuse.

These donations not only bring tangible gifts but also offer intangible benefits that extend far beyond the holiday season. Here are some of the profound impacts these contributions have on our clients:

  • Creating Lasting Memories: The gifts provided allow families to create cherished memories and a sense of normality and stability during a time that may otherwise be overshadowed by difficulties.
  • Alleviating Financial Strain: For those facing financial challenges, the Christmas Cave gifts provide a reprieve, ensuring that limited resources can be redirected to essential needs such as rent, petrol and groceries.
  • Fostering a Sense of Community: The support from donors fosters a sense of community and belonging, reminding families that they are not alone in their struggles.
  • Boosting Emotional Well-being: We see the act of receiving thoughtful gifts uplift spirits and contribute to the overall emotional well-being of our clients and their families.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Clovelly Community Bank, Ray White Maroubra and Coogee, Lions Club Maroubra, Share the Dignity, and Project Kindness for their unwavering support.

Your generosity has made a significant impact on the lives of those in our community, allowing us to spread love and joy during the festive season.

Thank you for making the Deli Women and Children’s Annual Christmas Cave a beacon of hope for all.
